What The DMV?!

So, like most people, going to the DMV is not just a horrible waste of time, but a painful waste of time at that! I swear the wait seems longer since they incorporated their 'battleship style' of grabbing a number. You know what I mean, having the number to be called 'C107' or 'B13'. And they don't even flinch when you stand up and yell 'Bingo'! I know, I've tried.

Anyhow, I started today with the knowledge that my tags went bad on my car a couple days ago. I got up early on a Thursday the 3rd to get everything accomplished. Tired, with Lunchables in hand, I started on my way to the emissions testing place.

This too is also usually a pain. Beyond the wait due to all the cars that are usually there, but these employees usually don't have much of a sense of urgency – why should they? Government employees, right? So you spend your time reading all the signs on the back of the building saying that it is a federal offense to even try to bribe the emissions people. Which makes me wonder, do you thing the emissions people are computer savvy enough to supersede the computer into a passing emissions test when your car fails? Food for thought.

So, I rolled up with great vehemence when I noticed there were only two cars there! This is great! I got in right away and rolled my car on the dyno-rollers. I grabbed my Lunchables and had a seat in the little booth that you sit in while the emissions guy drives your car nowhere at 60 miles an hour, but no today! I learned that my car has emissions sensors built into it and all they had to do was plug in a computer and let the car tell them if my car passed emissions! Wow! That was $28 well spent! But it didn't take long.

I made my way to the DMV in Mesa. Usually this place is hit or miss. Sometimes it's a three hour wait, sometimes only an hour. Usually, I'd grab my number, go home, take a nap, watch a movie, have lunch and then go back to only wait a half an hour, but not today! I told the lady that hands out the numbers (now that it's battleship numbers, they need to pay someone to hand out numbers) that I needed new tags. She told me that around the corner there was a kiosk where I could pay with my credit card then just take my receipt to one of the tellers without waiting in line and get my stickers.

Sure as shit, I did just that and was in and out of the DMV in like ten minutes. This is not an exaggeration: I actually started to tear up a little when the lady gave me the new sticker for my plate. I was that full of joy.

So, moral of the story, be sure to bring a debit/credit card to the DMV if you need tags and you'll be in and out in no time!

Hooray for the DMV!! (Did I really say that??)
